Jūrmala lies about 25 km from Riga, roughly half an hour by car, along the Gulf of Riga. It is Latvia's best-known seaside resort, famous for a long sandy beach, pine forests and one of the largest collections of wooden villas from the late 19th and early 20th century.
With a private car you are not tied to a train timetable or a tour group. Walk the pedestrian Jomas iela in Majori, stroll the beach, have lunch at a seaside café and let the driver wait. If you have time, add Ķemeri National Park for the Great Ķemeri Bog boardwalk. The trip starts and ends at your address in Riga.

A protected landscape of bogs, pine forest and mineral springs in the western part of Jūrmala, about 45 km from Riga. The main sight is the Great Ķemeri Bog boardwalk, a wooden trail of roughly 3.5 km that winds between bog pools and stunted pines, with a viewing tower along the way. Nearby, Ķemeri Park has a sulphur spring and the restored historic spa buildings. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours, wear waterproof shoes and bring repellent in summer.
