Jūrmala: a half-day by the sea
About 25 km and 30 minutes from Riga, Jūrmala is Latvia's classic seaside resort, with a long sandy beach, pine forests, wooden villas and the pedestrian Jomas iela in Majori. A Jūrmala day trip lasts 4.5 hours and starts and ends at your Riga address.
Rundāle, Bauska and the Hill of Crosses
The most rewarding full day south of Riga. Rundāle Palace is a Baroque masterpiece by Rastrelli, Bauska Castle stands where two rivers meet, and the Hill of Crosses just across the Lithuanian border is a powerful, photogenic pilgrimage site. Tartu: Estonia's university city

How to choose
- Short on time? Choose Jūrmala, or Rundāle and Bauska as a day that returns to Riga.
- Moving between capitals? Choose Tartu, Tallinn or Vilnius, which are one-way trips with stops.
